A thirsty Koala that was resting in the middle of the road because to the high heat was spotted by cyclist Anna Heusler and a group of South Australian friends as they were traveling into Adelaide.
This kind of encounter is usual in that town, but what surprised the group of riders was how the koala reacted when it became aware of their presence.
The koala did something they had never seen before when Anna and the party stopped to aid it as they would have expected, hoping to find it in the forest and give it a drink of water.
Anna stated to 7News:
“He approached me as I came up on my bike, moving very quickly for a koala, and while I was giving him a sip from each of our water bottles, he actually climbed onto my bike. We have never witnessed anything like that before.”
Because the koala was undamaged by the forest fires, they helped him and gave him a drink before accompanying him back to the neighboring trees.
Despite the fact that this encounter was the result of an event, Anna found it to be a joyful and enjoyable time, and she did not hesitate to share her thoughts about it on social media.
He posted the photographs to Instagram and labeled them as a legend in his article:
In a heat wave, koalas become really thirsty. As I was descending, this koala approached me and got onto my bike as I was offering him a drink.
The Adelaide Hills are experiencing intense fires that have already destroyed almost 25,000 hectares of vegetation, forcing the koalas to relocate in search of food and water.
One of the groups working to improve this issue is Adelaide Koala Rescue. This NGO’s Jane Brister is taking care of about 46 koalas who have been impacted by the forest fires.
In a conversation, Jane stated:
“Koalas are starving right now because there is just no food, which is a major issue. The fact that it takes at least four days for someone to discover them is also a concern.”
